In the heart of a snowy mountain paradise

Ingenuity and innovation: this principle has guided the Parpan family in shaping the Tgantieni over four generations. What was once a simple alpine farmstead has become a mountain hotel with a restaurant, the Marola Hut and a whole lot of heart.

From alpine farmstead to hotel

In 1899, Johann Anton Parpan acquired the Tgantieni maiensäss, a seasonal alpine farmstead, for farming. Even back then, growing numbers of ski tourers were making their way towards Scalottas, Danis and Stätzerhorn on skis fitted with climbing skins. In 1928, this prompted the Parpan sons and daughters to open a small inn in the old family parlour. With the construction of the legendary Funi lift in 1936 and the Tgantieni and Scalottas ski lifts in 1942, the rise of the Lenzerheide tourist region was set in motion.

The ideal location of the Tgantieni mountain inn and the growing number of guests called for more space. The hayloft was converted into an open veranda. The covered terrace could not be heated, so it could only be used in fine weather.

In 1951, Luis Anton Parpan took over the property from his siblings. He recognised that guests needed somewhere to stay overnight, and so the first dormitories in the region were built above the veranda. As a result, the kitchen had to be enlarged so that overnight guests could be catered for too. Further conversions and extensions followed in the years after, to simplify day-to-day operations and make guests’ stays as pleasant as possible. By 2000, the steady development of the former alpine farmstead had resulted in 98 dormitory beds and 25 beds in simply furnished rooms.

In 1985, a younger generation of the Parpan family took over the mountain inn. We, too, have renovated and modernised a great deal in recent years, true to our father’s philosophy that only ingenuity and innovation lead to success.

In 2001, we converted the Tgantieni into a hotel with spacious rooms. To offer our guests modern comfort, an extensive renovation of the building was needed. Since 2001, Berghotel Tgantieni has offered 14 beautiful, spacious hotel rooms, a large sun terrace, a restaurant and a cosy Stübli.

In 2010, we built the Marola Hut with great attention to detail. Located right on the ski slope next to the hotel, it’s the perfect place to stop for a bite to eat. In the afternoon, we offer a relaxed après-ski there, and in the evening the hut is a hidden gem for birthday parties and corporate events. The Marola can be booked exclusively for a fine dinner for groups of 25 or more.

In 2014, the young generation led by Edwina and Silvano Beltrametti-Parpan, who have managed the business since 2008, initiated another major renovation. Since reopening in December 2014, the Tgantieni has been completely renovated and is now wheelchair accessible. It features four additional double rooms, two new suites, an inviting fireplace lounge, a small sauna with a relaxation room, a lift serving four floors, the new restaurant and spacious guest toilets.

In spring 2018, we fully renovated all the rooms and balconies built in 2001 and refurbished them with great attention to detail. All rooms are now newly renovated and of a high standard.

In 2021, we completely renewed and rebuilt the kitchen, so that we stay at the peak of our culinary game.

We are confident that the new Tgantieni will delight many guests.

And that’s by no means the end of our philosophy: we still have plenty of ideas like these…
